세미나 제목 : Near Zero-Power Spectrum Sensing based on Harvested RF Energy

내용 :

The RF spectrum is a finite but exceedingly valuable natural resource that facilitates a tremendous variety of applications and services. As new wireless applications and services emerge, radio spectrum resources will be in ever-greater demand. Spectrum sharing is a promising wireless communication paradigm that enables greater efficient use of the radio spectrum. The operation of spectrum sharing, however, requires periodical sensing and continuous decision-makings on the availability of spectrum, hereafter referred to as spectrum sensing (SS). The current state-of-the-art employs energy detection for SS, which require spower-hungry RF front ends. As such, the energy consumption for SS can be significant, particularly in densely occupied environments, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), where the spectrum sensors must spend most of their time searching for available spectrum. In this talk, I will discuss the optimum sensing bandwidth that maximizes the throughput per unit of energy (bits per Joule) and the feasibility of SS based on the harvested radio frequency (RF) energy for self-sustained operation. At the end of this talk I will explain the Platforms for Advanced Wireless Research (PAWR) program initiated by NSF.
