Abstract: Ice is an essential building block of planet formation. Therefore, studying ice composition and its evolution during star and planet formation is important. To investigate ices in young stellar objects (YSOs), we can utilize ALMA, JWST, and the upcoming SPHEREx mission. ALMA observations reveal sublimated complex organic molecules, while JWST provides detailed ice absorption spectra. SPHEREx will perform all-sky ice mapping. Burst events in the accretion process of YSOs can reveal ice compositions toward extremely young protostars and evolved disk sources, where, otherwise, the ice composition cannot be explored. Thus, catching burst events by monitoring YSOs allows for a detailed investigation of the ice composition during star and planet formation. Combined with time domain observations, ALMA and JWST will be even more powerful for studying interstellar ice.
