세미나 제목 : Single-Photon Avalanche Diodes: Overview and State of the Art

발표초록 :

Single-photon technology is a cornerstone of modern imaging applications, where single-photon sensitivity and high timing resolution are required. Examples include low-light-level image sensors, photon-counting imagers for MRI-compatible positron emission tomography (PET/MRI), fluorescence-lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM), safety monitoring, automotive sensing, robot vision, etc. Until recently, the single-photon sensors in most of these applications have been photomultiplier tubes (PMTs) and micro-channel plates (MCPs), but the emergence of solid-state replacements, such as single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs), also known as Geiger-mode avalanche photodiodes (G-APDs), has created a true revolution in many fields of imaging science and engineering. SPADs can detect very low intensity signals, down to the single-photon level and provide accurate photon counting and time-of-arrival detection due to the digital nature of their output, enabling photon counting at high speed with high timing resolution. This talk will give an overview and the state of the art of SPADs, including next-generation applications, theoretical basis and characteristics, the most recent developments, and the current trends in the field of SPADs.
