Abstract:

One of the exciting new science results from the early JWST data is the ubiquitous presence of heavily obscured ("HST-dark") galaxies in the NIRCAM surveys. Follow-up studies have shown that many are dusty star forming galaxies at z=2 to 6 (and in some cases z>10). Some of these galaxies were already known from deep radio, mm/submm, and IR surveys, confirming their dusty nature. In this talk, I will discuss the contribution by these heavily obscured galaxies to the cosmic star formation history and (more speculatively) black hole mass accretion history using the ultra-deep 1000 hr long exposure VLA observation of the COSMOS field and its rich archival multi-wavelength database.
