Recent advancements in minimally invasive medical applications have led to significant developments in the field. These advancements include various aspects, including lower-profile structures, enhanced multifunctionality, improved biocompatibility, and innovative hybrid designs of biomaterials. Translational medical devices such as stents, stent grafts, coils, shunts, and microsensors require rigorous design processes and comprehensive preclinical validation studies. This presentation shares recent outcomes of such research, focusing on minimally invasive medical devices and related design and manufacturing efforts. In vivo preclinical studies on small and large animal models demonstrate the practical applicability and safety of these medical devices. This presentation highlights recent achievements in translational medical device research for minimally invasive procedures. Specifically, it introduces three new devices: (1) a novel coronary artery stent with integrated in-stent restenosis progression surveillance, (2) a bioabsorbable elastomer-coated coil for treating cerebral aneurysms, and (3) a soft ventriculoamniotic shunt for treating fetal aqueductal stenosis. The development and successful implementation of these innovative devices have the potential to significantly impact patients' quality of life, while also contributing to a reduction in healthcare expenditure associated with disease and injury treatment.
