▣ Title: A novel way to tailoring mechanical properties in materials and structures

Speaker: JinKyu Yang(Professor)

Affiliation: University of Washington, Seattle

▣ Date: 2021. 3. 12.(Fri) 13:00

▣ Venue: Online(Zoom)

▣ Host: Prof. Keonwook Kang

▣ Abstract

Advanced materials and structures are a key enabling technology in many engineering fields. In this talk, I will demonstrate how origami can be used as a design principle to realize such advanced material/structural systems. Specifically, I will show some examples of tailoring mechanical properties at will, such as auxeticity, stiffness, and stability, by using origami architectures. Computational simulation and experimental demonstration results will be presented along with the discussion on the target engineering applications, e.g., deployable structures, reconfigurable material systems, and impact absorbers. I will also touch briefly upon robotics and mechanical logic gate applications.
