Synopsis
"Grandma, let me comfort you. It's been a tiring day. Hug me tight, please. Show me your love." In South Korea, Hyodol, a doll-shaped robot equipped with sensors and communication capabilities, talks to more than 6,000 older people who live alone. The documentary film "Hug Me Tight" follows these robots, listening to engineers and managers who produce Hyodol, social workers who mediate between older people and Hyodol, and those who live with a "robot grandchild." A collaborative project of two scholars and a video artist, "Hug Me Tight" asks questions about new relationships in ageing societies: Can robots take care of older people? Can older people take care of robots? How should we take care of each other?
