1. Definition for "Double Degree Program"

  • A student may be conferred two master's degrees, one from Yonsei and the other from Keio, upon a  successful completion of two master's theses


2. Admissions for the Double Degree Program

  • Yonsei University: Each September (May 2 and September 1)
  • Keio University: Each September (April 1 and September 22)
  • Students two finished their first semester at the first-enrolled university may have their student record at the partner school


3. Admission Procedure

  • Each student required to obtain an admission from each university separately Keio University is required will adopt an already-existing admission procedure for foreign students (Keio University will exempt students from the written entrance examination but will require a review of admission materials and an interview).Yonsei University will adopt an already-existing admission procedure for foreign student, which requires a review of admission materials and an interview

6. Master's Thesis Requirements

  • To be conferred a master's degree from each school, a separate thesis should be submitted to each school
  • Primary thesis supervisor should belong to the first-enrolled university but at least one secondary thesis supervisor must be included from the partner school
  • Preliminary and final thesis defense should be conducted at each of the two schools separately, but there can be some special consideration

8. Length of Study

  • Participating students are encouraged to spend two (and more years, if necessary) years of study as they could take two separate master's degrees from the Double Degree Program. If a participating student is not able to complete a required thesis for the degree from the partner school, it is possible for them to enroll another (or, more) semester(s) at the partner school to complete the requirements.

9. Agendas for the Further Consideration

  • Entrance Quota: Yonsei and Keio may have its own criteria for admission but degree to work together closely to admit as many qualified students as possible.

    ◆ Third Semester: Enrollment at Keio (in Japan); Maximum 10 credits, plus 4 project credits (Minimum Requirements: Minimum 6 credits, plus minimum 2 Project credits)
    ◆ Fourth Semester: Enrollment at Yonsei (in Korea) for Thesis Supervision 1 credit and thesis writing; Enrollment at Keio for Thesis Supervision 2 credits and thesis writing

    ◆ Fourth Semester: Enrollment at Keio (in Japan) for Thesis Supervision 2 credits and thesis writing; Enrollment at Yonsei for Thesis Supervision 1 credit and thesis writing

  • Tuition and Housing Policy Tuition for each semester should be paid to the school where the participating student is taking classes during the semester Yonsei and Keio University will work closely together to provide housing for the students of the partner school

  • Comprehensive Examination Yonsei University Graduate School requires a second language exam and a comprehensive exam. Keio University Graduate School requires a comprehensive exam before thesis writing. Each school may honor the school's decision on the comprehensive and language requirement exams. Each School should offer the same class that is offered at the partner school so that participating student may have choice.

  • Special Consideration at Yonsei University Special consideration should be given to the faculty of the specific department that has a plan to participate in Yonsei-Keio Double Degree Program Regional Studies: Regional Studies' Studies' participation in Yonsei-Keio Double Degree Program will become effective upon the approval by the Faculty Council of Regional Studies.
