Institution Application

Support Project for Academic Journal Indexing

1. Objectives

This project aims to induce improvement in the qualitative level of academic journals that are published or scheduled to be published by the on-campus organizations, and to further increase the status of this University in the research fields.

2. Support Target and Detail

  • A. Support Target
    • 1) Publisher

      This University`s colleges, (including departments or divisions), on-campus research institutes (research institutes affiliated with university, college, or inter-university partnership), and research centers (research groups) performing large-scale national projects

    • 2) Requirements

      Specialized journals that are (or scheduled to be) published periodically at least once a year (including monthly, bimonthly, quarterly, and half-yearly) to exchange academic information (excluding simple publications such as newsletters and journals scheduled to be published)

  • B. Support Detail
    • 1) The simultaneous evaluation of the academic journals published (scheduled to be published) by on-campus organizations at the beginning of each year shall be performed to determine the level of support by grading.
    • 2) Execution items of the grants shall be limited to any expenses directly for publishing the academic journal. (Including, for example, academic journal publication fee, manuscript fee, review fee, editorial staff`s labor cost, and construction cost for cyber publishing)
    • 3) In principle, all items other than the manuscript fee, review fee, and editorial staff's labor cost must be executed through the research grant card.

3. Restrictions

  • A. The journals financially supported by this project must faithfully carry out their efforts to be listed in each index and report the results accordingly. For any academic journal that neglects these duties, the publisher of the corresponding journal (including the director of the organization as well as the director of the research project) shall be excluded from the support target of various research support projects conducted on the campus.
  • B. If the application form and submitted data in relation to this project are found to be false, the publisher of the corresponding academic journal (including the director of the organization as well as the director of the research project) shall be excluded from the support target of various research support projects conducted on the campus for the following three years.
  • C. If the research period is 10 or more years, only those journals whose journal grade has improved shall be supported.
    However, an exception may be applied to existing academic journals with the highest grade.
  • D. An applicant shall submit the published years of the journal, support period from the Office of Research Affairs, annual grants, Korean Citation Index (KCI), and publication rate (dropout rate) for the latest three years in one page upon submission of the application form.
  • E. Not all journals under application are eligible for support, though journals shall be selectively supported based on the internal evaluation of the Office of Research Affairs.
  • F. The evaluation of journals shall be performed based on grades according to the criteria designated by the review commissioners, journals that have received the lowest grade twice in the consecutive years shall be excluded from the support target.

4. Support Details

  • 4.1. Korea Index (KRF Index) - KRW 10 million/year, up to three years
  • 4.2. International Index (SCI(E), SSCI, A&HCI) - KRW 30 million/year, up to three years
  • 4.3. Evaluate annually even after selection → Decide whether to continue offering the grant (Confirm whether plans submitted at the time of application are implemented)
  • 4.4. Payments made by the grant are limited to expenses directly incurred in the publication of the journal (e.g.,- journal publication cost, contribution fee, manuscript processing charge, editing director labor cost (up to KRW 300,000/month), system build-up cost for cyber publication, etc.)
  • 4.5. All payments except those for the contribution fee, manuscript processing charge, and editing director labor cost must be made by the university corporate credit card.

5. Others

  • 5.1. Academic journals awarded this grant must make good faith efforts to become included in an index within three years from the offering of the grant, and the outcome must be reported. If these requirements are not met, the publishing institution (including the head of the institution and principal researchers) of the journal will not be eligible to receive research grants from the university for the next three years.
  • 5.2. In case application forms and submitted documents are found to be falsified, the publishing institution (including the head of the institution and principal researchers) of the journal will not be eligible to receive research grants from the university for the next three years.

Academic Events Support Project

1. Objectives

This project aims to support the holding of academic events (domestic and international), which the arena for academic exchange on the campus, in order to contribute to the vitalization of research activities and academic exchange within this University.

2. Support Target and Detail

  • A. Support Target
    • 1) Academic events in which research presenters and panelists are organized with researchers from three or more external organizations.
      (excluding the events that include on-campus researchers alone),
    • 2) Applicants (universities [or graduate schools], departments [or divisions], and research institutes) must be confirmed as sponsor or host by invitation letter, pamphlet, and proceeding of the corresponding academic event (independent/joint application).
    • 3) Academic event programs (including invitation letters, pamphlets, banners) must be confirmed as held on-campus.
    • 4) Academic events of 100 or more participants shall receive financial support.
  • B. Support Detail
    • 1) Support scale: Financial support shall be provided once a year per applicant organization.
    • 2) Types of events
    • A) International Academic Events: Academic events involving researchers from at least three overseas research institutions (excluding South Korean) as research presenters and panelists
    • B) Domestic academic events: National academic events on a national scale that satisfy the conditions for financial support
    • 3) Amount of Grants
    • A) In case of two places for research presenter and panelists

      - International academic events: KRW 2 million; domestic academic events: KRW 1 million

    • B) In case of three or more places for research presenter and panelists, with 100 or more participants in total

      - International academic events: KRW 4 million; domestic academic events: KRW 2 million

3. Restrictions

  • A. This project shall be implemented within the project cost limit set for the school year.
  • B. Any academic events funded separately from the university budget may not be eligible for this project.
  • C. If any event does not meet the requirements of international academic events, the event may be considered a domestic academic event for financial support.
  • D. The financial support may not be executed unless a direct relation with an academic event is recognized.
  • E. If the Yonsei Academic Research Result Report is not completed, the applicant may not be eligible for support.

4. Application Procedure and Required Documents

  • A. Application Method
    • 1) The submitted application form shall be reviewed to decide whether to provide financial support.
    • 2) Application and documents must be submitted to the Office of Research Affairs at least 3 weeks prior to the academic event

      (If the application passes the deadline, the financial support may not be available.)

  • B. Required Documents
    • 1) The academic event plan (application form), one copy
    • 2) Academic events program (including invitation letter and pamphlet), one copy

      (Although these documents should be submitted at the time of application, in principle, if there is any reason, these documents may be submitted at the time of a result report resultswithin 15 days after the end of the academic event.)

5. Result Report

: Settlement is completed within 15 days after the end of the academic event.

  • A. Result report (Required form), one copy, and proceeding (requiring the specification of the sponsor or host), one copy
  • B. The event photo including 80% or more of the participants, one copy

Expenses Support Project for foreign scholars Invitation

1. Objectives

This project aims to strengthen international ties with foreign scholars, raise the level of research to the global level, and create the basis for promoting international academic events by inviting internationally distinguished foreign scholars.

2. Support Target and Detail

  • A. Support Target
    • 1) Academic events inviting foreign scholars for academic lectures by department (or division) (requiring submission of the Dean's confirmation letter)
    • 2) Requirements for foreign scholars: Among scholars having international authority and fame, award winners from academic conferences and academic societies, as well as internationally known awards, editors and editorial board members.
    • 3) Foreign scholars must have at least a full-time professorship.
  • B. Support Detail
    • 1) Support scale: KRW 3 million for once a year per Department (Division)
      • - Lecture fee: KRW 1.5 million/lecture or less
      • - Round-trip airfare: Support for actual expenses below business class
      • - Accommodation fee: Supporting actual expenses within 7 days
      • - Event fee: Event-related incidental expenses, including event-related printing fee, rental fee, reception and annual membership fee
    • ※ Required Documents for Settlement
      • - Passport personal information and immigration stamp, one copy
      • - Original receipt (return flight ticket, accommodation fee receipt)
      • - Proof of payment of the lecture payment (receipt, receipt of foreign currency remittance or other document supporting proof of payment)

3. Restrictions

  • A. This project shall be implemented within the project cost limit set for the school year.
  • B. If a foreign scholar gives a lecture at an academic event supported by the Office of Research Affairs, he/she may not apply for this project. (Duplicate support may not be allowed.)
  • C. If there is any off-campus research project, financial support, in principle, should be processed in relation to such project, and duplicate support may not be allowed with the same account in this project.
  • D. Duplicate application may not be allowed with the Graduate School Internationalization Infrastructure Support Project.
  • E. If the Yonsei Academic Research Result Report is not completed, the applicant may not be eligible for support.

4. Application Method and Required Documents

  • A. Application Method
    • The application and attached documents must be submitted at least one month before the date of the invited lecture event. (Application may not be allowed after the deadline.)
  • B. Required Documents
    • 1) Application form, one copy
    • 2) Academic lecture program (including invitation letter or pamphlet) or poster, one copy

      (Although these documents should be submitted at the time of application, in principle, if there is any reason, these documents may be submitted at the time of a result report results within 15 days following the end of the academic event.)

    • 3) Proof of awards of foreign scholars or editorship and editorial board membership at renowned journals, one copy

5. Result Report

Settlement shall be completed within 15 days following the end of the lecture, and the result report shall be completed by submitting the following documents:

  • A. The result report (Required form) within 15 days of the end of the lecture, one copy
  • B. Lecture content and list of major lecture participants (free form), one copy
  • C. The event photo including 80% or more of the participants, one copy
