Personal Application

Participation Expenses Support Project for Internationl Academic Conferences

1. Objectives

By supporting the expenses for participation in international academic conferences, this funding project aims to promote international academic exchanges and increase the research capacity of the faculty members for promoting academic development.

2. Support Target and Detail

  • A. Support Target
    • 1) Financial support is limited only to full-time faculty members who will attend international conferences to present their research articles.
      • The medical center runs on an independent budget at the Medical Research Institute. The Yonsei University Health System (YUHS) operates the project based on an independent budget from the Office of Research Affairs.
      • New faculty members whose employment commenced less than three years before the date of application are eligible.

      ※ If the research article to be presented is related to a patent application, please be cautious concerning the publication of the patent due to presentation of the research article (grace period date).

  • B. Support Detail
    • 1) Support scale: Support of the actual expenses within regional allotment (first-come first-served until the budget is exhausted)
    • 2) Support scope: Airfare (Economy Class), registration fee, travel insurance (Based on Yonsei University Group Insurance Contract), accommodation fee
      • - Region A (Asia region): Within KRW 0.7 million
      • - Region B (Non-Asia region): Within KRW 1.5 million
    • 3) The payment period of grants shall be after submission of a final report as settlement of the actual expenses.

3. Restrictions

  • 1) This project shall be implemented within the project cost limit set for the school year.
  • 2) Excludes support for business trips, and posters for educational purposes shall be excluded from the scope of support (only oral presentations are included).
  • 3) This project shall be implemented for any application that has been submitted together with the confirmation letter from the department chairperson for equality of benefits.
  • 4) This project shall be accompanied by a business trip application, preventing any duplicate business trip application for other research projects.
  • 5) In case of receiving duplicate application(s) for the participation expenses of the academic conference in other research projects, the application will be rejected.
  • 6) If two or more faculty members present the same research article, financial support shall be available for only one representative.
  • 7) If the Yonsei Academic Research Result Report is not completed, the applicant may not be eligible for support.
  • 8) Any faculty member who has received the approval of support must apply for a business trip through the research management system before departure, and if the application is missing, the decision of support may be withdrawn.
  • 9) The accommodation fee shall follow the travel expenses provision in the research fund management guidelines, and the use of accommodations designated by the academic body may be admitted as an exception.

4. Application Method and Required Documents

  • A. Application method: Any faculty member who intends to receive financial support must submit the following documents no later than one month before departure.
  • B. Required documents
    • 1) Application form (required form), one copy
    • 2) An academic conference program brochure or an invitation letter, one copy (verification of participation and presentation is required)
    • 3) Approval letter from the department head
  • C. The faculty member who has received the approval of financial support must apply for a business trip through the research management system before departure.

5. Result Report

  • A. Reporting method: Any faculty member who has summited the application form and received approval for financial support from the Office of Research Affairs must submit the following documents according to the settlement method of travel expenses through the research management system within 15 days of his or her return.
  • B. Required documents
    • 1) Final report (required form), one copy
    • 2) Academic conference participation report (required form), one copy
    • 3) Presented research article, one copy
    • 4) Personal information and immigration stamp pages from passport, one copy per each.
    • 5) All original receipts (return flight ticket, registration fee receipt, travel insurance policy copy)

      - Expenditures by corporate credit card for other research expenses are not acceptable.

  • C. The faculty member who has received the approval of financial support must apply for a business trip through the research management system before departure.

6. Final Report

A faculty member who submitted an application form and obtained approval from the Office of Research Affairs must submit the following documents within 15 days from his/her return to Korea.

  • 6.1. Final Report (standard form)
  • 6.2. Academic conference attendance report (standard form)
  • 6.3. Presented article (full text)
  • 6.4. A photocopy of passport photo and personal information pages and departure & arrival stamps
  • 6.5. Original receipts (round-trip air tickets(boarding passes), registration fee receipt) - Payments made by non-corporate credit cards are not recognized

International academic conferences held outside Korea after March 1, 2017

Publication Support Project for Professional Academic Books

1. Objectives

This project aims to provide actual expenses for a faculty member at Yonsei University who publishes a book through the Yonsei University Press for promoting production of excellent professional academic books.

2. Support Target and Detail

  • A. Support target: Professional academic books published by full-time faculty members at this University (Seoul) through the Yonsei University Press

    ※ Textbooks and related books are excluded

  • B. Support detail: The cost for publication through the Yonsei University Press will be paid by the Office of Research Affairs (50%) and the Yonsei University Press (50%).(However, up to LRW 10 million per book will be provided)

    ※ If a domestic publication among professional academic books is translated into a foreign language, the 50% support from the Office of Research Affairs can be used for labor costs.

3. Restrictions

  • A. This project shall be implemented within the project cost limit set for the school year.
  • B. If the Yonsei Academic Research Result Report is not completed, the applicant may not be eligible for support.
  • C. The support target of this project is professional academic books published by Yonsei University faculty members, and anyone who received payment in violation of this, shall return the money and be excluded from future projects.

Application Method and Procedure

  • A. Applicant: Submit the application form to the Office of Research Affairs.
  • B. Office of Research Affairs: The submitted application form and the book publication application form shall be sent to Yonsei University Press.
  • C. Person in Charge at Yonsei University Press: Yonsei University Press conducts its own review.
  • D. Person in Charge at Yonsei University Press: Yonsei University Press will discuss matters with researchers.
  • E. Person in Charge in Yonsei University Press: Yonsei University Press submits the receipt including the publication expenses to the Office of Research Affairs.
  • F. Office of Research Affairs: Settlement of expenses

    ※ If 50% of the research funding by the Office of Research Affairs is used as the labor cost for translation, the financial support shall be provided after the translation is completed and the proof of translation is attached.

5. Indication of Research Results

  • A. All research results should include the following phrases:
    • 1) In Korean: “이 논문(저서)는 ( )년도 연세대학교 연구비의 지원을 받아 수행된 것임.(교내과제번호)”
    • 2) In English: "This research was supported by the Yonsei University Research Fund of 20—(Internal Project No.)"
    • 3) In other languages: The phrase corresponding to the above '1)' should be specified.

6. Result Report

  • A. Submit two copies of the published book (Yonsei University Research Information (Central Library)), and further submit the issued receipt to the Office of Research Affairs.

7. Other

This project will be executed from June 1, 2009.
This project will be executed within the total project budget limit appropriated in the relevant school year.

Seed Money Support Project

1. Objectives

This project aims to support the expenses of full-time faculty members at this University for submitting research proposals to research projects coordinated by off-campus research-dedicated organizations, in order to facilitate the receipt of off-campus research projects and to encourage the faculty members to actively engage in the contests.

2. Support Target and Detail

  • A. Support Target
    • 1) Only a research director (full-time faculty member at this University) who has submitted the research proposal to the research project contest of the off-campus research-dedicated organizations (excluding central government), may apply.
      • The applicant for this project and the general manager of the submitted research proposal must be the same person.
    • 2) When the research project selection process is divided into a preliminary proposal (or technical proposal, idea contest, etc.) and evaluation of this main proposal, only the applicant selected for the evaluation of this main proposal may apply.
    • 3) Only the applicant to government-funded research projects may apply.
    • 4) In the science, engineering, and medicine fields, only the applicant who submits a proposal for a multi-year project with a period of two or more years may apply.
    • 5) Only the applicant who is involved in a joint project including three or more full-time faculty members (including ones from other universities) may apply.
  • B. Support Detail
    • 1) All the expenses (including meeting expenses, printing fee, bookbinding fee, and purchase of consumables) directly related to the submission of the off-campus research project proposal shall be supported within the upper limit of the grant after the expenditure of the applicant. (The direct relation is determined by the Office of Research Affairs).
    • 2) The start date of accepting written evidence shall be within 2 months before the date of the research project submission, and its end date shall be within 1 month after the deadline for submission of the proposal. (However, the deadline for support may be extended until presentation evaluation after the deadline.)

3. Restrictions

  • A. This project shall be implemented within the project cost limit set for the school year.
  • B. The financial support after initial expenditure shall be available up to twice to any full-time faculty members at this University for the corresponding school year.
  • C. Any applicant who has received support from the headquarters shall be excluded from the support target (including BK21).
  • D. If there is no original receipt, no financial support may be provided unless the direct relation is recognized.
  • E. Any single individual project may not be eligible for application.

4. Application Procedure and Required Documents

  • A. Application Procedure: The application form and attached documents must be submitted within 15 days from the date of the proposal submission.
  • (Any application after the application period shall be excluded from the support target)

  • B. Required Documents
    • 1) Application form (required form), one copy
    • 2) The research project announcement that can confirm the publication date One copy.
    • 3) A cover of the research proposal (requiring the stamp by the Director of Industry University Foundation) or the online submission certificate (photocopy), one copy

5. Application Process and Required Documents

  • 5.1. Application Process
    • An application form and required documents must be submitted within 15 days from the date of proposal submission. An application submitted past the deadline will not be eligible.
  • 5.2. Required Documents
    • (1) Application Form (original copy)
    • (2) Notice on Research Project (photo copy)
    • (3) Proposal cover (with an official seal of the Dean of the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation) or on-line receipt (photo copy)
    • (4) Receipt attachment form. (① Must be original copies / ② Grant not allowed if not original copies)

6. Remarks

  • 6.1. The grant is provided until the budget for the academic year is exhausted.
  • 6.2. A full-time faculty member may receive up to two grants in an academic year.

Support Project for Research Article Publication Fee

1. Objectives

This project aims to promote (through financial support) the research capacity of full-time faculty members who publish academic research articles as research achievement in renowned domestic and overseas journals.

2. Support Target and Detail

  • A. Support Target
    • 1) Financial support is available for the main author (first author or corresponding author) of the research article and full-time faculty member of this University as of the date of application.
      However, any faculty member who has received the financial support from the college, research institute, or external academic body for the same purposes shall be excluded.
  • B. Support Detail: Publication fee shall no greater than KRW 1 million per article
    • 1) HumanitiesㆍSocial Sciences: Articles registered with Yonsei Researcher Information (YRI) System after primarily being published in the journals enlisted on the National Research Foundation of Korea, the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), the Arts and Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI), and general international journals
    • 2) Science and Engineering: Articles registered with the YRI System after primarily being published in journals on the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE), corresponding to top 25% based on the Journal Citation Reports (JCRs)
    • 3) The coverage of support is limited to the publication fee and the review fee, excluding the separate edition.

3. Restrictions

  • A. This project shall be implemented within the project cost limit set for the school year.
  • B. Any who fail to complete the final report on the Yonsei Academic Research Expenses shall be excluded from the support target.
  • C. Any research article that has received grants from other funding projects, in principle, shall be excluded from the support target.
  • D. If the main author of a research article cannot be determined because the authors of the article are listed in alphabetical order (either Korean or English), any author who can demonstrate himself or herself as corresponding author with written evidence, or the a author who is a full-time faculty member at this University, may apply for financial support
  • E. If the first and the corresponding authors of one research article are both full-time faculty members at this University, only the corresponding author may apply.
  • F. Financial support, in principle, shall be provided for research articles published in the journals of the current year, while the research articles that were published in the journals of the previous year may be financially supported only when their publication date is within six months from the application date in retrospect.
  • G. The actual publication fee shall be within KRW 1 million per application, and if the amount exceeds KRW 1 million, a separate review for any journal within the top 10% in impact factor (IF) in each academic field shall decide the financial support (up to KRW 3 million total).
  • H. When a candidate research article is determined as supported by research funding outside the University through Acknowledgements, the research article may not be eligible for financial support. Such research articles may be eligible only after the termination of the execution of the research project outside the University.

4. Application Procedure and Required Documents

  • A. Application procedure
    • 1) An individual faculty member shall pay the publication fee for his or her research article in advance at his or her own expenses.
    • 2) The faculty member shall upload the published article to the YRI System of the University to obtain the approval number.
    • 3) Add the approval number on the application form, and submit the form with written evidence to the Office of Research Affairs.
  • B. Required documents
    • 1) An application form containing the YRI approval number (required form), one copy
    • 2) One invoice of thesis publication (in principle, original, fax invoice available)
    • 3) Submission of receipts
      • A) Published in a domestic journal:

        Cash payment: Bank transfer certificate and the receipt with the seal of the academic body concerned, one copy each

        Card payment: Original credit card receipt and the receipt with the seal of the academic body concerned, one copy each
        (Original receipt is required, in principle, but a photocopy may be allowed if necessary)

      • B) Published in an international journal:

        Cash payment: Foreign exchange statement and a full text of remittance (MT103), one copy each.

        Card payment: Original credit card receipt or a copy of the usage statement confirming the amount in KRW, one copy.
        (Original receipt is required, in principle, but a photocopy may be allowed if necessary)

5. Application Process and Required Documents

  • 5.1. Application Process
    • After making payments for the publication processing charge, an application form and proper receipts should be submitted to the Office of Research Affairs.
  • 5.2. Required Documents
    • (1) Application form (original copy)
    • (2) Invoice on publication charge (In principle, the original copy should be submitted, but a fax copy is also acceptable.)
    • (3) If published in a Korean academic journal,
      If paid in cash: Account transfer receipt and a receipt stamped with an official seal of the relevant academic society (original)
      If paid by credit card: credit card receipt (original copy) and a receipt stamped with an official seal of the relevant academic society (In principle, the original should be submitted, but a photocopy is also acceptable.)
    • (4) If published in an international academic journal,
      If paid in cash: F/X transaction statement and remittance receipt (MT103). (original copy)
      If paid by credit card: credit card receipt (original copy) or a detailed document verifying the won-denominated amount
      (In principle, the original should be submitted, but a photocopy is also acceptable if inevitable)

Proofreading Support Project for Foreign Language Research Articles

1. Objectives

This project aims to allow for use of professional editors to correct the style or flow of a research article to be published for enhancing completeness and reliability of the work, thereby raising acceptance rates in renowned overseas journals when full-time faculty members at this University submit research articles to such journals.

2. Support Target and Detail

  • A. Support Target
    • 1) Financial support is available for the main author (first author or corresponding author) of the research article and full-time faculty member of this University as of the date of application.
      However, any faculty member who has received financial support from the college, research institute, or external academic body for the same work shall be excluded.
  • B. Support Detail: Publication fee shall be provided up to KRW 1 million per article
    • 1) HumanitiesㆍSocial Science: Articles registered with Yonsei Researcher Information (YRI) System after primarily being published in the journals enlisted on the National Research Foundation of Korea, the Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), the Arts and Humanities Citation Index (A&HCI), and general international journals

  • 2) If the Yonsei Academic Research Result Report is not completed, the applicant may not be eligible for support.
  • 3) If the publication confirmation letter is not submitted, the application for projects in this University shall be rejected.

4. Application Procedure and Required Documents

  • A. Prior application: Requesting a contractor designated by the Office of Research Affairs
    • 1) Select one of the following companies’ websites and enter the information, including article title, journal to be published, applicant, and separate requests
      ※ Please be sure to add the organization code (2022YSRESEARCH) in the separate requests to each website.
      The input code will identify the client from an organization; the code will be periodically changed and displayed on the Office of Research Affairs/ University Industry Foundation website.
    • 2) Proofreading results will be sent within 7–10 days after receiving a confirmation e-mail from a company (subject to change depending on article word count)
    • E-mail the assessment letter and a copy of submission confirmation certificate within a month after completion of proofreading to the Office of Research Affairs (yonsei-research@yonsei.ac.kr)
      (Cost payment will be borne by the Office of Research Affairs at the end of the month)
    • 4) Designated companies: Be sure to add the organization code (2022YSRESEARCH) upon request
  • B. Post-application: Actual expenses shall be settled within the set limit after using companies other than those designated (restricted to regular proofing service)
    • 1) Request a proofing service from intended chosen company (an incorporated business) separately
    • 2) Pay proofreading fee at the expense of a professor in advance (expenditures by corporate credit card for other research projects are not acceptable)
    • 3) Submit the following documents to the Office of Research Affairs to receive the payment of actual expenses
      • Post-application support form, proofread research article, company invoices, payment receipts, assessment letter, and submission confirmation materials
      • In case of post-payment of another company's proofreading fee, a tax invoice may not be acceptable.
