SEC6000 Fundamental electronic materials This lecture aims for students to develop an ability to understand the electrical properties of various materials and their following optical or magnetic properties. The lecture also covers basic electronic devices based on those materials including metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFETs), solar cells, and memory devices. The students will give presentations on specific electronic materials and their major applications. 3
SEC6000 Fundamental introduction to flat panel display This lecture aims to broaden the understanding of display technology ranging from basic operating principles to future applications. In specific, the lecture covers liquid crystal display (LCD) and organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display devices with a thin-film transistor (TFT) in their backplane. The students will give presentations on future display applications. 3

SEC6000 Fundamental Biodegradable Polymer Blends and Composite: Synthesis and Application - Polymers from natural resources are becoming popular due to environmental concerns from non-biodegradable polymer and petroleum resource are not going to be forever from which synthetic polymer are prepared.
- Agricultural sources are well utilized to prepare these polymers which is very important for many countries.
- Cellulose, starch, protein are natural polymer, poly(hydroxybutyrate) are from microbial fermentation and poly(lactic acid) are from natural monomers.
- The properties of these polymers can be well improved by blending and compositing along with the biodegradability of the polymer.
SEC6000 Fundamental Introduction to Neural Network This course gives an introduction to basic neural network architectures and learning rules. Emphasis is placed on the mathematical analysis of these networks, on methods of training them and on their application to practical engineering problems in such areas as nonlinear regression, pattern recognition, signal processing, data mining and control systems. 3
SEC6000 Fundamental Introduction to Computational Neuroscience Computational neuroscience is one of the rapidly growing field of studies in the common ground of biology, physics, mathematics, and computer science including many different structural scales, including the biophysical, the circuit and and the systems levels. This course aims to help students to understand fundamental concepts on computational neuroscience without much background in mathematics and computer science. Particular focuses include (1) Basic neurons such as membrane potentials, simplified neurons, and synaptic plasticity (2) Basic networks such as random network, feedforward network, competitive network, and point attractor network, and (3) System-level models such as modular models and hierarchical models. Preliminary materials on required math, physics, computing materials will be given in the beginning weeks of the course. 3

It presents many thought-provoking exercises to stretch students` imaginations, giving them a deeper understanding of the molecular biology, basic probability, software programs, and program-coding methodology underpinning this exciting field. 3

For this purpose, a few intrinsic and extrinsic approaches for the development of new functional ceramics are proceeding. SEC6000 Advanced Carbon Dioxide Capture: Process and Application - Global warming is worsening due to combustion of fossil fuel. Capture of CO2by chemical and its conversion to valuable products are one of the solutions.
- Microporous and mesoporous materials; metal organic framework (MOF) and mixed matrix membrane (MMM) based materials are used for adsorption and separation of CO2.
- These captured CO2are converted to carbonates and other valuable materials.
