The Creative Convergence Major is established as an affiliated program within the master’s degree course of the Graduate School of Korean Language and Literature, following the school’s regulations. As a specialization within the Korean Linguistics major, there is a focus on Korean language education for non-native speakers. After completing relevant courses, one can obtain a Korean language teaching certificate*.
*For detailed information on the Korean language teaching certificate, please refer to the link related to the certification for Korean language teachers from the National Institute of the Korean Language.

2. Students in the master’s and doctoral programs of this department must select an advisor based on their major before the third-semester registration.
3. Students who wish to acquire the required credits for the master’s program and take the comprehensive exam must undergo a comprehensive evaluation by their advisor regarding the appropriateness of the regulations for acquiring major credits.
4. All students in the master’s and doctoral programs can acquire credits according to the following regulations:
a)For the minimum 30 credits required for a master’s degree, 21 credits must be obtained in the department, and the remaining credits can be acquired through courses offered by other departments with the advisor’s approval. However, in the case of the Creative Convergence Major, 18 out of the minimum 30 credits required for a master’s degree must be obtained in this department, and the remaining credits can be acquired through courses offered by other departments with the advisor’s approval.
b) For the minimum 30 credits required for a doctoral degree, 21 credits must be obtained in this department, and the remaining credits can be acquired through courses offered by other departments with the advisor’s approval.
c)In a) and b), ‘other departments’ refer to departments other than the Department of Korean Language and Literature (including cooperative programs).
d) The cumulative credits for courses in other departments within the university and credits approved for exchange from other universities (credits approved for exchange from Korean language and literature departments of different universities) cannot exceed 15 credits. Additionally, if there are specific regulations for sub-majors related to this, they take precedence.
e) In a) and b), the credits that must be acquired from ‘this department’ include all courses offered by the Department of Korean Language and Literature, including Korean linguistics, modern literature, classical literature, and the Creative Convergence Major. (Applied from September 2006)
5. Foreign language exams, comprehensive exams, and theses follow separate regulations, and detailed information can be found in the Foreign Language Exam section.
6. All divisions within the Department of Korean Language and Literature must complete the mandatory course <Research Ethics> before graduation with a master’s or doctoral degree. Students who take “Research Ethics” during the master’s program are not required to retake the same course during the doctoral program. However, students who complete the master’s program at another university and enter the doctoral program at our graduate school must take “Research Ethics.” This course has no semester restrictions and can be applied for and taken anytime. Until the 2021 spring semester, “Research Ethic” was offered under an independent course number for the Department of Korean Language and Literature. However, starting from the 2021 fall semester, it will be integrated and operated as a common course for graduate school.
7. “Research Guidance” is also mandatory for graduate students. For master’s and doctoral students, it is automatically registered in the fourth and sixth semesters, respectively. Students in the relevant semester can directly cancel or reapply for the registered courses during the registration period (within the registration period). However, it is impossible to register for courses in the last semester in advance, so if you need to take the course in advance, you must follow a separate application procedure through the department office.
