INTRODUCTION

Welcome to the Yonsei University School of Social Welfare

Since the Yonsei University School of Social Welfare was founded in March 2001, we have been playing a key role in the advance of research in the field of social welfare. Starting in the year of 2006, SSW was selected as a Brain Korea 21 project institution, exerting every effort to keep the highest level of education and research. After being selected as BK21 program institute, we were evaluated as the best social welfare school in Korea.

Recently, Korean society has gone through radical changes as globalization, polarization, low fertility rate and family disorganization. It is also time for the field of social welfare to make changes. Therefore, in terms of overall social changes, the Yonsei University School of Social Welfare is putting a great deal of effort to cultivate leaders who can bring advances in social welfare worldwide as well as in Korea.

We are also cultivating global leaders in the social welfare field by keeping pace with the era of globalization. For this purpose, we have engaged visiting professors from leading universities abroad and extended the opportunities for overseas education for students who are enrolled in the master’s and doctoral programs. Furthermore, we have continued overseas recruitment activities in order to attract excellent foreign students.

We appreciate your consistent cooperation and interest in Yonsei SSW. We continuously make every effort to make Korean society a better place though our advanced education programs and research activities.

The School of Social Welfare was established in March 2001 to actualize "serving community and society" that is the founding spirit of Yonsei University. Under the mission, the school has pursued to provide systematic training and specialized study for advanced social work practice. The school follows an academic tradition using a critical inquiry along with an emphasis on the use of examined knowledge and skills in developing professional intervention methods.

In education programs, the school offers full-time two-year master program (M.S.W. degree), doctoral program (Ph.D. degree), and one-year research program (certificate in research). All the programs are designed to strengthen students with the most up-to-dated and advanced knowledge and skills regarding social welfare through practical research and field education.
