Master of Social Welfare (MSW) Program

This program is designed to provide students with basic knowledge in the field of social welfare and to enhance their capabilities to perform the leading roles in the field of social welfare.

Degree Requirements

• Students may take 2 to 5 courses (6-15 credit hours) per semester.
• Students must earn at least 42 credit hours with 4-8 semesters.
• Students must obtain a grade point average of 3.00 (B0) or higher.
• Students must pass the foreign language examination and have their thesis approved by the thesis committee.
• Students must have enrolled for at least 4 semesters and undertaken thesis research for at least one semesters.
• Master program must be completed within 4 years (8 semesters) from the date of initial registration.

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Program

The main objective of the program is to provide students with sufficient knowledge in the field of social welfare and enable them to conduct independent academic research, as well as provide instructions to those who intend to build on their knowledge and skills.

Degree Requirements

• Students may take 2 to 5 courses (6-15 credit hours) per semester.
• Students must earn at least 42 credit hours.
• Students must obtain a grade point average of 3.00 (B0) or higher.
• Students must pass the foreign language examination and have their thesis approved by the thesis committee.
• Students must have enrolled for at least 6 semesters and undertaken thesis research for at least 2 semesters.
• The Ph.D program must be completed within 6 years (12 semesters) from the date of initial registration.

Joint Doctoral Program : Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Social Welfare Policy

The objective of the program is to create a synergy effect by integrating and developing the research achievements in the field of social welfare, and to produce first-rate professionals with a deep understanding and theoretical knowledge of social welfare policies. The Department of Social Welfare and the Department of Sociology will take part in this program, with participating professors from the Departments of Economics, Political Science, and Public Administration.

Degree Requirements

• Students must take at least 4 core courses and 4 major courses.
• Student must earn at least 30 credit hours.
• The Joint Doctoral Program is a two-year program, and must be completed within 6 years.

Combined Master's and Doctoral Program

This program allows students who were admitted to the master's program to earn a doctor's degree at graduation. Not both degrees but only the doctor's degree will be granted. The students are required to the doctoral dissertation only.

Degree Requirements

• Students must earn at least 63 credit hours. (non-majors are required to take 51 credit hours)
• Students must obtain a grade point average of 3.00 (B0) or higher.
• Students must pass the foreign language examination and have their thesis approved by the thesis committee.
• Students must have enrolled for 8 semesters and undertaken thesis research for at least two semesters.
• This program must be completed within 7 years (14 semesters) from the date of initial registration.

Research Program

The objective of this program is to provide instructions to those who have sufficient field experience and seek to conduct theoretical research.

Degree Requirements

• Students may take 2 to 3 courses (6-9 credit hours) per semester.
• Students must earn at least 15 credit hours.
• Students must obtain a grade point average of 3.00 (B0) or higher.
• This program must be completed withing a minimum of 1 year (2 semesters)
