Undergraduate Program
The Department of Interior Architecture and Built Environment’s undergraduate curriculum includes courses that teach overall planning theory to help students understand the relationship between humans and their environments, courses on design theories to develop their creativity and problem-solving abilities, and courses in which students will engage in actual design projects.

Course Information
Understanding and Creating Spaces / 3 credits
Teaches the theory and practical design methods that serve as the foundation for understanding and creating spaces and teaches the overall design process and its results through examples of created spaces.
Principles of Interior Architecture and Design / 3 credits
Teaches philosophies of interior architecture, the modeling principle, and space composition methods in interior architecture.
Housing Planning / 3 credits
Teaches conditions and principles of housing and interior space planning from the perspectives of the natural environment and housing.
Interior Architecture Studio 1 / 3 credits
Teaches basic theories of housing space composition, housing planning and design methods, facility planning, and methods for setting establishing spaces in communities. Prerequisite: Architectural Drawing and Graphics.
Architectural Drawing and Graphics / 3 credits
Teaches technical design expression theory and practice and offers students opportunities to have hands-on practice.
Integrated Graduation Project / 3 credits
Students design, create, and display their graduation projects.
Drawing / 3 credits
Teaches basic presentation abilities by having students practice space design drawing.
Space Design Practice / 3 credits
Fosters 3D space design abilities by teaching the principles of 3D space composition.
Digital Design Media / 3 credits
Teaches the theory and practice of using digital tools and expression methods for design media.
The History and Style of Interior Architecture Design / 3 credits
Teaches the characteristics and backgrounds of interior design by period, region, and country from ancient times to the present and nurtures the ability to analyze and understand the cultural and formative characteristics of historically important spaces and to forecast how spatial environments will change in the future.
Digital Fabrication / 3 credits
Teaches digital design theory and methods and how to use digital tools to assemble architectural elements.
Interior Architecture Studio 2 / 3 credits
Provides training on the entire design concept establishment process and how to address issues in commercial spaces. The types of commercial spaces that these skills can be applied to include restaurants, stores, and fashion spaces. Prerequisite: Interior Architecture Studio 1.
Interior Structures and Materials / 3 credits
Teaches about exterior and interior architectural structures, how they are composed, their formative characteristics, and space composition principles and characteristics by exploring the characteristics of various materials to give students the ability to develop new designs and to foster relevant abilities.
Housing and Living Systems / 3 credits
Teaches about the relationship between the spatial composition and function of Korean housing from the viewpoint of the living environment and living space planning methods.
Indoor Environmental Quality / 3 credits
Teaches about the basic theories of the relationships that heat, light, air, sound, and space have with the broader interior environment and analyzes and evaluates interior environments through field studies.
Interior Architecture Studio 3 / 3 credits
Offers students the opportunity to conduct interior architecture projects in actual work spaces to apply design principles that integrate design and architecture. Prerequisite: Interior Architecture Studio 1.
Environmental Psychology / 3 credits
Teaches environmental psychology theories, which are concerned with the relationship between spatial environments and human behavior and psychology, and offers students opportunities to analyze and discuss the phenomena that occur in spatial environments in order to allow students to understand how theories are applied in the real world and develop their own creative abilities to apply them in their own spatial designs.
Design and Culture / 3 credits
Teaches about the cultural processes involved in spatial formation and discusses the relationship between design and culture.
Introduction to Korean Housing / 3 credits
Teaches about the characteristics of Korean housing from the modern to contemporary periods and compare and analyzes the traditional and transformative aspects of housing during these periods.
Design with Color and Lighting / 3 credits
Teaches about color concepts, principles of lighting, and how to apply both in environmental design.
Ergonomics and Design / 3 credits
Teaches about the basic principles of humans’ physical, behavioral, and sensual characteristics and how to create designs that match them.
Building Illumination / 3 credits
Teaches basic theories about lighting, which is an important environmental factor in interior spaces, and examines its application in actual buildings.
Sustainable Interior Architecture / 3 credits
Teaches about the definition of sustainable interior architecture, strategies for creating it, and real-world domestic and foreign examples.

Teaches about laws and regulations related to architecture and social insights related to them.
Traditional Korean Architecture and Design / 3 credits
Teaches about and analyzes Korea’s traditional architecture and spaces and fosters students’ ability to apply relevant knowledge when analyzing spatial designs.
GIS-based Spatial Analysis / 3 credits
Teaches about how to plan and analyze spaces using GIS.
Furniture Design / 3 credits
Teaches how to analyze and understand the demands of users of various spaces and how to design furniture that meets them.
Interior Architecture Studio 4 / 3 credits
Teaches design principles that integrate design and architecture by having students complete interior facility architecture projects. Prerequisite: Interior Architecture Studio 1.
Building Acoustics / 3 credits
Teaches the principles and theories related to building acoustics and practical ways to produce acoustic architectural environments that are pleasing to users.
Digital Design Studio / 3 credits
Teaches how to use computer rendering and animation technologies.
Future Living Space / 3 credits
Teaches about the factors that are influencing the future of human spatial environments, experimental spaces, cutting-edge housing development cases from around the world, and the planning and development of future-oriented housing to nurture students’ design planning abilities.
Lighting Design Studio / 3 credits
Teaches about lighting effects and functions in various spaces and has students complete a design project.
Control Systems for Built Environments / 3 credits
Teaches basic theories about systems that control the environmental factors necessary for maintaining pleasant interior environments and how they are actually used in buildings.
Design Management / 3 credits
Teaches about design management principles and nurtures students’ abilities to manage brands and products and maximize companies’ design value.
Modern and Interior Architecture / 3 credits
Teaches the key characteristics of exterior and interior architecture in the 20th century to allow students to understand modern spaces and anticipate the characteristics of future spaces by analyzing notable spaces and characteristics of designers’ work.
Environmental Design Studio / 3 credits
Teaches various design paradigms by integrating broad design principles and has students complete design projects to improve practical skills.
Facility Management and Design / 3 credits
Teaches theories of how to manage corporate environments and spatial and design management theories for office buildings, hospitals, and hotels.
Spatial Place Marketing / 3 credits
Teaches various marketing strategies and methods and urban interior architecture design elements and principles and has students present about and discuss them.
Professional Practice / 3 credits
Gives credit for work at major-related businesses during vacation periods.
Construction Documents and Detailing / 3 credits
Teaches about the construction, management, and integration that occur during and the specifications of project execution.
Display and Coordination / 3 credits
Teaches about exhibition space display techniques and fosters students’ ability to comprehensively compose spaces.
