Christian Education
Christian education is a discipline which attempts to critically correlate theology with contemporary culture, and Christian tradition with human experiences. Christian education moves beyond a mere application of theoretical disciplines toward providing Christian praxis for church and global society. Based on this understanding, Christian education aims at providing an interdisciplinary methodology by exploring theology, education, sociology, and psychology. Moreover, Christian education investigates problems on contemporary society and provides visions and perspectives for the 21st century.
Christianity has been witnessing the decline of Christian tradition in face of globalization process, and experiencing role confusion according to structural differentiation. Moreover, Christianity has been confronted with diverse and contradictory opinions in a pluralistic society and has declined in terms of influence and numbers without adequate preparation for the globalization process and information technology. Confronted with this challenging situation, Christian education at Yonsei University aims at providing an educational situation in which students are provided with opportunities to participate in communication, to speak and listen with openness to different theories, and to exercise mutuality as they seek to understand and take the role of others. It also provides an environment in which students are encouraged and challenged to develop their own Christian praxis by exploring and engaging in studying diverse theories. Christian education at Yonsei University attempts to promote academic development by engaging in conversations with international scholars around the world.
