The Ministry of Justice has implemented a measure as of February 24 (Mon.), 2020 which allows registered aliens (Overseas Korean residents) to automatically extend their stay to be valid until April, 30, 2020 to prevent the community spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).

Regarding the measure, please make sure to note following guidelines as those who were residing overseas at the time of its enforcement on February 24, 2020 are EXCLUDED from the Automatic Extension of Stay Measure.

1. The Measure applies to those who are or have been legally residing in the Republic of Korea, as of the enforcement date (February 24, 2020).

2. Those who were or had been residing overseas at the time of its enforcement (February 24, 2020) are NOTeligible for the measure, and thus required to enter Korea and file an application to extend his/her Period of Stay prior to the expiration date.

3. Those whose Period of Stay has expired while residing overseas are required to apply for a visa at the Korean diplomatic missions abroad and enter Korea with a "newly" issued visa.
