Public transportation in Korea is very convenient and safe. You can easily get to anywhere in Korea by public transportation.

Metro and Buses

Metro Information

Seoul Metro is one of the world’s largest urban railway networks, comprised of Subway Lines 1 to 8 and the second and third sections of Subway Line 9.

Bus Information

Buses are connecting everywhere in Seoul and in the suburb.

Taxi

There are various options for taxis in Korea. The following fare for taxi is subject to change. (fare as of February, 2023)

Note that the base fare for taxis may vary depending on the region.

  • Standard Taxi
    Base fare 4,800 won / surcharge for out-of-town and late-night (10pm-4am)
  • Deluxe Taxi
    Deluxe taxis are mainly black / Base fare 7,000 won
  • Jumbo Taxi
    Base fare 7,000 won / The fare is same as deluxe taxi but jumbo taxi can fit from 6~10 passengers
  • International Taxi
    Incheon International Airport ↔ Seoul fare 70,000 won~140,000 won
    Reservation is mandatory and must be made 24 hours before the pick up time.

    You can usually grab a taxi passing by or there are various taxi applications available in which you can use.
    For a faster and more convenient way, applications are recommended. Please look for and use an app that best fit your needs.

T-Money for Public Transportation

T-money / Cashbee Transit Card can be used for buses, metro, taxis, even to pay at convenience stores, and affiliated shopping stores (Cashbee). It is a prepaid card and is rechargeable.

How to use the transportation card
STEP 1: Purchase a transportation card (T-money or Cashbee) or use Yonsei ID* card

Transportation cards can be purchased at the ticket vending machines in the subway station or at convenience stores (CU, GS25, 7-Eleven, Ministop.)

Note: You need to activate the public transportation card function at Wooribank when using the Yonsei ID card as a T-money card

STEP 2: Recharge & Checking the balance

The cards can be recharged at convenience stores or at the vending machines in the subway stations with cash only.
The balance amount on your transportation card can be checked at vending machines, convenience stores, online (app), or at some bus stations.

Recharging a large amount to the card is not recommended as the card may be lost or stolen.

STEP 3: Transfer from Metro ↔ Bus (Taxis are not included)

With a T-money or Cashbee card, you can transfer for free or at discounted price to another bus, EXCEPT the same number bus as the one you got off from, or to a metro (up to 4 times). The transfer must be within 30 minutes after tapping the card from the previous transportation. After 9 pm~ 7 am, transfer time is an hour. Please note that you cannot transfer from subway ↔ subway for free if you pass through the gates and tap your card out.

To transfer, you must tap the transportation card on the machine when getting off, otherwise you will be charged a full fee at the transfer and tap again when getting on the transferred bus/metro.
