Degree and Graduation Requirements

 

1) English Writing (1) is only available on Regular Semesters (not on Summer/ Winter Semesters) from the year 2012.

2) TOEFL esay score that can exempt for English Writing (1): CBT essay, over 5.0/6.0 / iBT essay, over 27/3.
    - Submit the TOEFL score (original copy) to the English Department Office

    - Must be within the valid period on the day of submission

    - PBT essay score is not accepted for waiver

    *This exempts from the requirement of taking the course English Writing (1), but the according 3 credits should be completed elsewhere


3) From the class of 2010, having completed 60+ major credits can be accepted as Intensive Major (only for single major).
   - Must apply for it on Yonsei Portal

4) Double Major (English as the First Major) credit for class of 07~09
   : Equates to the single major (57 credits) 
 

5) Major Basic Extra Credits
      *All extra credits taken for Major Basic category are accepted as Major / Intensive Major course credits (changed 2010.3.25)

6) For students after class of 03 (includes of 2010) must complete 45+ credits of the 3000~4000 divisions.
   (can be of any major/field)

7) Courses under 'Liberal Arts College Common' can be accepted as an English Major course only if the course is taught by a professor from the English Department.

[ONE (3 credits) of either "Humanities and Law (HUM3001)" or "Modern Intellectual History of the 20th Century" (HUM3002) can be accepted as an English Major course.]
 

8) From the year 2010, categories of Major Basic, Major Exploratory, Major Requisite and Major Elective have simplified into "Major Requisite" and "Major Elective"- the course name determines how many credits to complete under "Major Basic."

    - Meaning, for classes of those before 2009, the courses under "Major Basic" are now under either "Major Requisite" and "Major Elective"- however simply taking previously-Major Basic courses will suffice for the graduation requirement.


9) "Methods of Teaching English (TTP3803)" is accpeted as a major course in English Department starting Fall 2011.

However, the courses taken before Fall 2011 (worth 2 credits), even with the same course name, can only be accepted as a Teacher Training Program course, not an English Major course.

11) Exemption of Social Engagement(SE) Courses for class of 2020
With the rapid spread of COVID-19, considering the need to minimize contact with each other in order to prevent for the spread, SE Courses are exempted only for the class of 2020.
