▣ Regulations on Qualification Examination

Article 1 (Qualification Examination)

Qualification examination means comprehensive examination and foreign language examination.

 

Article 2

Students are required to pass a comprehensive examination and a foreign language examination in accordance with the graduate school regulations. The acceptance criteria of the comprehensive examination and the foreign language examination are subject to the internal regulations of the department.

 

 

▣ Regulations on Comprehensive Examination

Article 1 (Eligibility)

Applicants who have registered for more than one semester of regular semester can take the examination.

 

Article 2 (Examination Subjects)

① Comprehensive examination of the master's degree course is the following ; Mathematical Statistics and Linear Model.

② The comprehensive examination of the doctoral degree and integrated degree course is the following; Linear Model, Mathematical Statistics and major of choice. However, the selected course must be approved by the advisor and the head professor.

 

Article 3 (Examination Procedures and Instructions)

① The comprehensive examination is held twice a year, and the schedule should be announced one month before the test.

②The examination time of the comprehensive examination shall be two hours for each subject.

③ The passing grade for each subject in the comprehensive examination is 70 points or more for graduate students in master's course and 80 points or more for doctoral graduate students out of 100 points.

④ The acceptance / rejection announcement of the comprehensive examination should be posted on the bulletin board and website of the graduate school within approximately two to three weeks after the comprehensive examination.
⑤ Those who have fallout courses should take the examination for that subject again. (Partial acceptance admitted)
⑥ Completion of 24 credits must be met by the completion of the 3rd semester, which is the date of the reporting the acceptance of the comprehensive examination. Failure to meet this requirement will invalidate the acceptance.
⑦ The examination can be taken up to three times for each subject.

 

Article 4 (Acceptance Regulations)
① Comprehensive examination required subjects (Linear Model, Mathematical Statistics) are recognized as accepted if the score of the corresponding course is A0 or higher.
② Taking the required courses for the comprehensive examination as taking the comprehensive examination once. In other words, in the case grades are A- or below, the Comprehensive Examination can only be taken up to two times.

 

Regulations on foreign language tests

Article 1
If a student submits a foreign language score at the time of admission, he / she should take the foreign language test.
 
Article 2 (Examination method and passing standard)
① Foreign language tests shall be replaced with the following submission of official foreign language test results. TOEIC, TOFEL, TEPS.
② Foreign language tests areis accepted with scores higher equal or higher than TOEIC 700, TOEFL IBT 72, TEPS 327 (new, old TEPS 600). However, test scores scores of tests which more than two years had passed from over two years ago based on the date of submission are not recognized.
③ Official foreign language test scores should be submitted within two weeks after completion of the third semester.
④ In case of foreign students, students should submit the results of other foreign language tests including Korean in the approval of the head of the department.
 
Article 3
If a student submitted a foreign language score at the time of admission, the student may be accepted for the foreign language test with the approval of the head of the department.
 
Article 4
Taking a foreign language test (English) at the Language Research Institute (Foreign Language Course) may substitute the foreign language test. 

 

▣ Regulations on Dissertation Review

Article 1 (Submission of thesis research proposal)
Students must submit a research proposal within one week of the fourth semester of their regular semester.
 
Article 2 (Dissertation Advice Qualification)
Students who have passed two exams (Mathematical Statistics, Linear Model) at the comprehensive exam and those who have passed the foreign language examination can receive the thesis advice.
 
Article 3 (Thesis Evaluation)
Thesis review will go through the process of preliminary examination, first examination, second examination and main examination. Failure to pass each screening phase will be considered as a failure of dissertation evaluation.
 

▣ Doctoral degree thesis

Article 1
As a requirement for graduation, a doctoral degree student must submit at least one of their papers written in English as the main author (1) published in the journals listed in the Korean academic journals, or (2) submitted and received R&R to the SCI-level international journals.
 

▣ Regulations about classes and credit

Article 1

The minimum number of credits required to obtain a master's degree and doctoral degree shall be at least 30 credits in accordance with the graduate school regulations. In the case of the integration degrees, the minimum number of credits required to obtain a degree should be at least 54 credits according to the graduate school regulations.
 
Article 2
Students can not complete more than 12 credits per semester.
 
Article 3
If a student receives an F the grade of the in a course taken is F, ithe/she can be retake itn. However, iIf the he/shecourse retaken receives an F again in the retaken course again, the student is expelled.
 
Article 4
If a student did not complete the basic courses required for graduate courses in undergraduate and graduate courses, he / she can take supplementary courses in undergraduate or graduate courses up to 12 credits under the supervision of the head professor. However, the undergraduate supplement is not recognized as a graduation requirement credit, and 9 credits of the graduate level supplementary course is acknowledged as the graduation requirement credit.
 
Article 5
Master and Ph.D. students must take at least 18 credits of major courses out of the 30 credits required for graduation. Integrated degree students must take 32 of 54 credits as major courses. Courses of other major must be taken with the prior approval of the head professor at the graduate school.
 
Article 6
Courses that are not provided in our department may be accepted as major courses in Applied Statistics under the approval of the head professor
 
Article 8
Regulations regarding the credits and classes related to the acquisition of other degrees are subject to general graduate school regulations.

 

 

 

▣ Master's degree graduation Regulation 

Article 1

According to the of the <Amendment of Higher Education Act>, master's degree students who entered after 2019-1 can graduate from substitute results instead of writing thesis.
 
Article 2
Master's degree students who entered after 2019-1 may choose to write a thesis under the guidance of their advisor. However, even if the dissertation is progressed under the approval of the supervisor, the supervisor can stop the thesis supervision if the progress of the research is insufficient. Application for the dissertation and application for suspension is made at the end of each semester (by the end of the 7th semester), and approval for the dissertation will be made at the end of the semester.
 
Article 3
If the student does not write a dissertation in a master's degree program the student should take at least 6 more credits in Applied Statistics. IF the GPA is above 3.0 this grade substitutes the thesis.
 
Article 4
Additional 6 credits will substitute the thesis only if the student passes the qualification exam. The department does the students who fail to pass the qualification examination from taking classes.
 
Article 5
A master's degree graduate student who entered in 2018 when the <Amendment of Higher Education Act> was applied should write the dissertation in principle, but may graduate by taking 6 additional credits and obtaining GPA higher than 3.0 with the approval of the head professor.

 

▣ Inquiry about the scholarship

Article 1

The scholarship is divided into academic excellence, lecture assistant, research assistant, and administrative assistant field.
 
Article 2
The scholarship selection committee composed of by a professor of Applied Statistics selects the student assistant by Article 1 and allocates the scholarship to the selected graduate student.
 
Article 3
Student assistant application is held at the beginning of each semester.

This by-law applies from the first semester of 2019
