School Introduction

The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering was founded in 2002 by merging three separate departments : the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Electronic Engineering, and the Department of Microwave Engineering. The School’s history dates back to 1950 when the Department of Electrical Engineering in the College of Science and Engineering was first founded. The Department of Electronic Engineering was founded in 1969, and the Department of Microwave Engineering followed in 2002. Over the past 70 years, our School has provided the most prominent research and education programs at Yonsei University. Rankings and statistics show that the research and education programs of our School have continued to expand and improve in pursuit of our educational objectives.

2017 Sep. The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering was ranked as No. 1 program in 2017 Joong Ang Newspaper's University Ranking in Korea.
2013 Aug. Biomedicine, Energy, and Smart-IT Technologies (BEST) Program was selected for BK21+ government funding.
2010 Dec. Undergraduate program was accredited by ABEEK.
2007 Apr. The School of EEE was selected for Yonsei's Global 5-5-10 Plan.
2006 Apr. TMS Information Technology was selected for the second phase project of BK21.
2004 Dec. Program was re-established into an ABEEK engineering educational preliminary accrediation program
Sep. The Center for Advanced RFID/USN Technology (CARUT) was selected and supported as the Information Technology Research Center (ITRC) by the Ministry of Information and Communication (MIC). 
May. The E-Health Research Support Center was established.
2002 July. Biometric Engineering Research Center (BERC) was selected as the Center of the Ministry of Science & Technology (MOST) and Korea Science & Engineering Foundation (KOSEF). 
March.

The School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering was separated from the School of Mechanical & Electronic Engineering.

2001 Nov. IT-SOC(System-On-a-chip) Research Center was selected as the Information Technology Research Center (ITRC) supported by the Ministry of information and Communication (MIC) of Korea. 
Aug. Center for Advanced Broadcasting Technology (CABT) was selected as the Information Technology Research Center (ITRC) supported by the Ministry of information and Communication (MIC).
2000 Oct. Based on the evaluations conducted during the 2000 academic year, the University/College Education Association selected Yonsei University’s Electrical & Electronic Engineering graduate program as No. 1 in the areas of electrical, electronic, information technology & telecommunications and selected its undergraduate program as No. 3 in the nation.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering in the Graduate School was renamed as the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering; the Department of Electrical Engineering in the Undergraduate School was renamed as the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
